The following article appeared at Meridian Magazine several years ago by Carolyn Nicholayson
Recently, we took our grandchildren to see the movie Horton Hears a Who. Truthfully, I was not looking forward to it because so many of the Dr. Seuss books have been ruined by the Big Screen. However, I have not stopped thinking about it since.
One of the main components that you’ll want to have around the house (or apartment) during a extreme situation is chlorine bleach. Not only can it be used for cleaning water (although boiling is hands down more effective and healthier) it is excellent for keeping things sanitary.
| My first experiments were during a winter in 1997 in Kalgoorlie, an inland location of Western Australia: The ambient nighttime minimum was getting down to 2-3 degrees above zero (Celsius).|
"We are confronted today with a great variety of serious economic and social conditions. But facing periods of economic stress, even deprivation, is not new to us as a Church. Throughout their history, the Saints have more than once faced such trials. As a result, the Lord from the early days of the Church has guided his leaders to see clearly certain correct principles. We feel compelled to reaffirm these basic principles of temporal salvation.

If you're like me you have an aversion to bugs and poison. I don't want to spray poison, breathe it, or have it anywhere near me or my garden. The side effects are just too great. So, let's save some money and our health and control pest naturally. At the bottom of the article is a recipe to make your own insecticidal soap spray without harmful chemicals.
So we've been storing hundreds of #10 cans. We've also been counseled to get a 3-month supply of ready to eat foods, which is adding many more cans to our supply. Have you thought about making sure that you always have a way to get those cans open?

You can’t do a Google search on food storage and not see Wendy DeWitt’s name. She is a well-known and respected lecturer on preparedness, and specifically food storage.
She has created a food storage method around planned meals to suit your family size.
Wendy has love for vacuum sealing, which she also demonstrates.
"In the October, 1972 General Conference, President Harold B. Lee gave the following guide on how to approach the important study of Christ's second coming, saying that we should be searching out and understanding the signs:
In October of 1988 President Ezra Taft Benson gave a talk entitled "I Testify". Considering this was his final spoken message to the saints in General Conference, this talk could be considered his final testimony. The following is an abridged version of his testimony (read the full article here). I have also made the mp3 audio recording available.
"As a special witness of Jesus Christ, and as His humble servant, it is now my obligation and privilege, as the Spirit dictates, to bear pure testimony and witness to that which I know to be true..."
Elder Ezra Taft Benson Of the Council of the Twelve
Ezra Taft Benson, "Prepare Ye", Ensign, Jan. 1974, 68
My brethren and sisters, seen and unseen; we are all brothers and sisters, children of the same Father in the spirit. Humbly and gratefully I stand before you this afternoon. I have been on my knees, in fasting and prayer, as have members of my family, that I may have the blessing of the Spirit.

Ever wanted to try a super easy recipe to make Homemade Bisquick? Use this recipe just like you would Bisquick.
I found a Cookbook from the Cedar Hills Utah 2nd Ward that can be printed freely. It has pages of recipes that are items found on most Pantry Shelves all the time. It also has a chapter on substitutions which I thought you may find extremely helpful.
Do you need one product that will kill germs, clean, is inexpensive, all natural, non-toxic and has 1001 uses around your home? Then just pick up a bottle of WHITE DISTILLED VINEGAR. Just think, all you need today in your home is White Distilled Vinegar, and isn't it easy and cheap to put in your stock of storage items?

Admit it. When you run into some characters in scripture, who don’t act the way you know they should, you think that you would have done so much better had you been there.
Take the story of Naaman, the captain of the host of the king of Syria who was also a leper.

I plan on making my own crackers, but haven’t tried these yet. This is one of my goals for this summer. They look easy!
I make my own bagels which are easy and taste great, so really how hard could crackers be. (Pun intended)
"In mercy the Lord warns and forewarns. He sees the coming storm, knows the forces operating to produce it, and calls aloud through his prophets, advises, counsels, exhorts, aye, even commands-that we prepare for what is about to befall and take shelter while yet there is time.
