Getting Rid of Earwigs or Not. It's up to you.

I've noticed that it's the season for earwigs in the garden. They hop aboard your pant legs and come into the house. Yuck! So .... if you'd like to get rid of them in the garden there is an easy non-toxic way, and you won't have "friends" visiting indoors. They have a useful purpose outside, but I certainly don't like them in my home.

Looking at them you may say to yourself that you find it impossible to believe that they actually have a big job to do in the great outdoors. They like to feed on plants and don't really care what kind, but they do love weeds. They eat the weeds, and they bless us by eating the seeds of the weeds. Another purpose that gardeners will appreciate is their mulching capabilities that enhance the soil, making it even more ideal for planting.

Now that you know this and you're still bound and determined to rid the world of earwigs just clean out a tuna or cat food can and fill it nearly to the top with water. Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil. Place the can in an earwig-infested area. If you have lots of the pests, place several cans in the area. When the bugs come out in the evening, they will crawl into the cans for a swim, but the vegetable oil will prevent them from getting out. You will awaken to dead earwigs.
