Living on Food Storage — Real Life Experiences

I read the following article by Carolyn Nicolaysen on Meridian Magazine several years ago, and found it interesting. You may see yourself in many of the experiences she writes about, or you may also find that you are prepared in many areas, but lacking in others. Aren't we all?

As we read the scriptures, study the words of the prophets, and look at the signs all around us, we may feel a prompting from the Holy Ghost to prepare for what is to surely come. And come it will quicker than many anticipate.  The better prepared we are then we shall be able to weather the  stormy days ahead. It would be better to live amongst those who are fully prepared and waiting to assist the Lord in all that needs to be done in the days preceeding his coming in great glory, than to be amongst the faithless or simply lazy. We shall see harsh events occur all around, but we can be secure in knowing that we have done all we can to be prepared.

Prophetic Statement by Elder L Tom Perry

Almost 16 years ago he gave guidance in the October 1995 General Conference, it seems to be even more pertinent today.
I believe it is time, and perhaps with some urgency,

Your Family Deserves a Dependable Clean!

Here's a big WHAT IF? What if you don't have access to a store? What if the stores are closed, perhaps for an extended period of time? What if Elder Dallin H Oaks was right when he came to our Stake Conference about 6 years ago, and said the next big thing to happen would be a Total Economic Collapse. What if the prophets are right and we have to live off of what we have stored?

Naw! That couldn't be true, could it?

We all know we should store food, but remember the prophets have said "every needful thing". My list of every needful thing includes Toilet Paper.

How Prepared is the Average Latter-day Saint Ward? - From UtahPreppers.com

It has become cliché for people to suggest that their preparedness efforts consist of a gun and ammo, so that in the event of an emergency they can forcefully demand that their Mormon neighbors give up some of their food storage. But do Mormons store as much food as people think they do? Do we all have a year supply of wheat, beans, rice, and freeze dried snacks?

Just a thought .... Are growing conditions right?

Have you been trying to grow a garden and have not been seeing stellar results? Just think about how this strange weather is playing out around the globe.

If you aren't able to grow, do you think the farmers have some magic beans that grow better than yours? Or maybe some giant umbrella they put up over the wheat crops? Or even better .... maybe they have a giant fan that just blows the bad weather away and they only have sunny skies, singing blue birds, dancing ducks, and everything is just perfect on the happy farm.

Project Noah Getting Started with Food Storage

If you haven't started there is no better time than NOW to start!

Project Noah is a year long food storage and emergency preparedness program. It is designed to help you set and obtain goals in the area of family preparedness. This is a suggested food and emergency kit schedule for one year --- starting with basic supply then emergency and finally expanded basic food supply (as given in Essentials of Home Production and Storage). If you follow it you will have one month's supply for 1-2 people. If you do not like an item on the list feel free to substitute.

Making Pickles this Year?

It's almost pickle time. I know I'm excited. Last year I made Dill Pickles and we are almost out of the quart jars. They were so good you could just sit and eat pickles. But this year I'm going to double the cases I did last year, and I'm adding sweet pickles to my store.

Are you as excited as I am? I'm going to try two new recipes this year.

Variety in Your Food Storage is a Good Thing

This post comes from "Utah Preppers Ready For Anything" It's a perfect example of too much of a good thing. It made me smile, because we have ALL done something we look back and laugh about in our adventures in "Food Storage Land". Most of us still have that overstock of something we don't even want today, or EVER again!

Seven Major Mistakes in Food Storage

I hope you aren't making these mistakes ... if you are, let's correct them now. It's much easier to make corrections now, when you have the opportunity.

Printed in the Nov/Dec 1995 Issue of The Preparedness Journal

By Vicki Tate

A month or two ago I met a cute little gal who was talking to me about her newly begun food storage. "You know," she began, "I've dreaded doing my storage for years, it seems so blah, but the way national events are going my husband and I decided we couldn't put it off anymore.

Another Tim Wolfe presentation on Preparedness

This presentation may feel a little like trying to get a sip of water from a fire hydrant but we must start somewhere... Prepare items in the same order that life may be endangered

Common Sense Ideas Learned About Storage and Preparedness

This talk given by Tim Wolfe in 2003 should be a wake up call to many, I can only hope.

Common Sense Ideas Learned About Storage & Preparedness

There are two types of Crises we must prepare for.

Has the Time for Preparation Passed?

This is an article I found in Meridan Magazine today. If you haven't had a chance to read it, you should take the time to do so. It isn't too late to prepare, but your preparations need to speed up, and the costs you will pay are greatly increased over what you would have paid just a few months ago. Do not put off your preparations thinking prices will go down. They are not! They will only increase. It is starting to sprinkle, and the deluge of the the flood is coming soon. Remember we have been warned repeatedly by our prophets.

Food Storage, Faith, and Prayer

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them. 1 Nephi 3:7

Obtaining your food storage and every needful thing is a commandment of God. How many simply do not keep this commandment for various reasons.
Reasons such as:
